Hippo is proud to sponsor Harrogate Railway Football Club, who play in Division One North of the Evo-Stik league. For this season, new investment in the club, has included providing the squad with Hippo branded towels and a kit bags.
Formed in 1935 by workers at the Starbeck LNER (London & North Eastern Railway) depot they first played their matches in the Harrogate League. But after years of steady improvement, by 1946 they had successfully won the British Railways National Cup Final.
In 2002 Railway were the lowest ranking club ever to reach the second round proper of the FA Cup and were drawn at home to Bristol City, the highest ranked club in the competition at that stage. A fairy-tale tie.
Sky TV beamed the game world-wide and the day lived up to expectations. Before a sell-out crowd of 3,500, Bristol City were made to fight for their 3-1 win. Steve Davey netted with 17 minutes to go to make it 2-1, but unfortunately an injury-time goal finally sealed Railway’s fate.
The season so far has been arduous, because Railway have been battling hard to avoid relegation. They’re currently 21 points clear of bottom team New Mills, but 5 points behind Ossett Town and safety. Results to date means that staying up will require a lot more hard work on the pitch, so everyone at Tembe wishes them best of luck for their remaining games, plus an even bigger, better performance.
