After triumphantly completing last Sundays London Marathon, our keen runners Guy Malam and fiancee Victoria Nicholson, have advanced their campaign to raise vital funds for Children with Cancer UK. So far the determined pair have successfully raised over £4,000 for the charity. To make your own donation visit Guy’s Just Giving page by clicking here.
Children with Cancer is the United Kingdoms leading national children’s charity, dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer. The charity funds life-saving research into the causes, prevention and treatment of childhood cancer and we work to protect young lives through essential welfare programmes.
London Marathon, Event director Hugh Brasher gave thanks to the Marathon’s 2016 champions for helping to make Sunday’s 36th edition “an incredible day” and a fitting tribute to the event’s co-founder John Disley. On a day when the London Marathon had its one millionth finisher, it was elite race winners Eliud Kipchoge and Jemima Sumgong who set a high standard with performances to rank with any in the event’s history.
Elite runner Kipchoge smashed the London course record, while Sumgong showed great bravery in battling back from her bruising fall to take the women’s crown with blood running from her temple.
“It was an incredible day,” said Brasher. “We are delighted that 39,140 had finished by 18:00 on Sunday, which was far more than we expected. We’ll revise that number in time, but it means our one millionth finisher went over the Finish Line at around 16:17 and we will announce their name on 9th May.”
The London Marathon received 247,000 applicants for the 2016 race in just five days. The public ballot for the 2017 race will open to all applicants on Monday 2 May and close at 17:00 on Friday 6 May.
